Types of Labels & Tags
Labels and tags are the building blocks of all business operations that require data collection and visibility. There are thousands of different label and tag materials available – each with its own features that affect durability, scannability, and printer performance. Using the right label is the first step to reliable and accurate RFID and barcode scanning. We offer labels, printers, and pre-printing services for the following labeling applications.
Warehouse Racking Labels
Warehouse rack and shelf tags combine 1D and 2D barcodes with human-readable letters and colors to quickly identify and validate shelf, bay, and bin locations. These durable labels are designed to withstand warehouse and industrial environments, allowing reliable scanning at long ranges. They can also be magnetic or repositionable in case locations change.
LPN & Pallet Labels
Another type of common warehouse label is pallet labels or license plate numbers (LPNs). These are pre-printed sequential barcode tags that are used to identify pallets, cartons, and bins.
Product Labels
Product labels come in a variety of sizes, designs, and colors. Oftentimes times this calls for vibrant color printing to show off your brand and product while still conveying key information and printing at scale.
Healthcare Labels
We have a variety of label types for key healthcare applications such as specimen labeling, blood bags, patient wristbands, autoclave labels, and more. These label types have defined dimensions and materials that need to be used for effective and safe patient care.
Specialty Labels
The type of label you need greatly depends on your environment. Dusty, oily, wet, or extreme temperature conditions require special label materials that will ensure the tags hold up over time and offer reliable data collection.
RFID Labels
RFID tags provide added functionality that traditional barcode labels can’t match. More specifically, they allow automated data collection with no line of sight or manual scanning required. Picking out the right RFID tag will depend on the items they are adhering to, your environment, and the type of RFID system you are looking to build. Ribbons
Ribbons replace traditional ink cartridges in thermal transfer printing. The ribbon sits between the label and the printhead and transfers ink onto labels as they pass through. The ink is then melted onto the label’s surface where it adheres during cooling. Thermal transfer ribbons come in one of three types:
- Wax – Wax ribbons work best in low to medium heat settings. However, they do not produce durable images. Therefore, non-abrasive environments would be best for labels printed with wax ribbons.
- Hybrid – Hybrid ribbons produce durable images on glossy surfaces. They work best for medium to high heat settings and low to medium print speeds.
- Resin – Resin ribbons produce the most durable images. They work best in higher heat settings with slower print speeds.
