RestEasy RFID: Positive Infant ID in the NICU
Using a combination of barcode, RFID, and human-readable text greatly enhances the delivery of patient care in hospitals by eliminating critical errors. The RestEasy RFID solution helps caregivers positively identify NICU infants with a single scan – confirming custody of a child or infant, identifying medications, and even tracking breast milk and specimens. Fixed RFID readers can also create checkpoints throughout the hospital for positive patient and equipment tracking.Â

Safely Scan Through Isolettes Without Disruption
RestEasy RFID allows you to positively identify infants in the NICU without having to un-swaddle or wake them. Using a comfortable, adjustable RFID infant ankle band, the RFID reader can read through both the isolette and swaddle blankets. This solution also eliminates the noise and harsh scanning beams associated with barcode scanning. In turn, NICUs can:
- Promote rest– important for recovery, growth, and development of NICU infants.Â
- Protect the baby’s eyes – keep scanner beams away from the baby’s face.
- Improve care – leave infants undisturbed by accurately identifying key information through
padded isolette covers.Â
Unlike barcodes, RFID technology requires no direct line of sight to obtain data and can even read through an isolette. RMS Omega has developed an effective combination of specialized wristbands equipped with passive RFID tags and corresponding readers to verify patient information from a pre-determined distance. Handheld readers can seamlessly scan any passive tag or wristband within range. Additionally, the scanning range and frequency levels can be calibrated based on the specific needs and layout of each hospital.
